Welcome to the Township of Pickle Lake.
On behalf of Council, staff, and residents, I welcome you to our wonderful little township!
I am honoured to be the Mayor of this vibrant community strategically located in northwestern Ontario. While we may be small, we have a big heart and we invite you to discover the opportunities to grow your business and nurture your family in our natural sanctuary.
We enjoy warm summers, where camping, swimming, boating and canoeing/kayaking opportunities abound and we offer access to numerous lakes brimming with a variety of fish species. Spring and fall offer hunting and berry picking. Winters bring cold weather which supports the ice road system where all vehicles must travel through Pickle Lake to access the far northern communities.
The town site was originally formed to accommodate mining in the area and continues to support the various resource base sector and transport industries as well the development of the hydro-electric extension and construction projects. Pickle Lake was once home to numerous float planes which provided the movement of people, goods and services to our northern neighbours. These planes also transported mining prospectors, canoeists and other outdoor adventurers. This continues to this day, as both outdoor adventure and exploration continue to be enjoyed across the north.
Check out our Events Calendar for our seasonal events. The annual Blackfly Festival traditionally held over the Canada Day weekend is action packed and fun for every member in the family. Curling bonspiels (held on our indoor natural ice surface), hockey tournaments, XS skiing, snowshoeing, and the Family Day festival are sure to keep you entertained. Or, drop by the monthly market held in our community centre to discover the handy crafts and local foods prepared by town residents.
Whether you are an annual summer visitor, a winter traveller, an employee working on a project in the area, come and enjoy the benefits of the fitness centre, participate in sports, festivals, pancake breakfasts, canoeing, kayaking (rentals available through the township office), fishing, fly out day-fishing, or relax by the water to enjoy the gorgeous sunsets on Pickle Lake. You will soon learn why our little town is so very special.
If you are a developer or business owner seeking advice or information or a prospective homebuyer, our community is ready to serve you. If you’re new to town, or simply visiting for the weekend, we encourage you to stay a little longer and enjoy the hospitality of local hotels, lodges, B&Bs and restaurants.
With warm regards,
